Spanska Kurs i Málaga

Málaga staden:

Spanska Kurs i MálagaMálaga seems at first an uninviting place. It's the second city of the Andalusia with a population of half a million, and is also one of the most touristic cities. Málaga's coastline forms part of the Costa del Sol, a special part of the Mediterranean. The climate is temperate, and the mean temperature is 22º C - from 16º to 19º in winter. This is due to the mountains that protect the coast from cold north winds. Málaga was first a Phoenician colony and later came under the control of the Greeks, Carthaginians, Visigoths, Arabs and Christians.

Today it is a maritime city rich in culture, some of whose remains are on view at the Archeological Museum. The friendly people and wonderful climate also encourage a stroll through the old walls and the remains of the Muslim palaces of the Alcazaba fortress; through its gardens next to the sea - they are adorned with palm and orange trees and jacaranda - and on to discover the house where Picasso was born, there on the wide, lively Plaza de la Merced. Or take in the view of the city from the top of the Gibralfaro Castle.

The elegant center of the city has a number of interesting churches and museums, not to mention the birthplace of Picasso and the new Picasso Museum, housing an important collection of works by Málaga's most famous son.

Around the old fishing villages of El Palo and Pedregalejo, are a series of small beaches and a paseo lined with some of the best fish and seafood cafés in the province. And overlooking the town and port are the formidable Moorish citadels of the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro – excellent introductions to the architecture before pressing on to the main sites at Córdoba and Granada.
